Alyson Hannigan was born on March 24, 1974 in Washington DC. Her birth name
is Allison Lee Hannigan.
Alyson's parents divorced when she was 2 years
old. Her mother is a real estate agent in Atlanta, and her father is a truck
driver in Missouri.
Alyson began her acting career in Atlanta at the age
of 4 in commercials sponsoring such companies as McDonald's, Six Flags, and
Oreos.
At age 11 Alyson moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles.
Alyson is a
television actress veteran, guest starring in "Picket Fences", "Roseanne",
"Touched by an Angel" and "The Torkelsons", before starring in her most
notorious role yet in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" as Willow Rosenberg.
The
producers of "American Pie" (1999) originally wanted her to play the role of
Heather, but Alyson wanted to play the role of Michelle because she thought it
was funnier.
Alyson is a spokesperson for breast cancer, and appeared in
a four page brochure featured in Vogue, Glamour, Self, Mademoiselle, and Women's
Sports and Fitness, to raise awareness about the disease.
